Askew joins the Powershop Gym team

BROOKINGS – The Powershop Gym recently welcomed Lucas Askew to its staff.

As a member of the training staff, Askew will work directly with clients as a personal trainer and lead small group classes.

Originally from Apple Valley, Minnesota, Crooked is an SDSU student pursuing a degree in Entrepreneurial Studies.

His strong passion for bodybuilding led him to participate in various competitions including Strongman, CrossFit, bodybuilding and Olympic weightlifting.

He said he looks forward to using his years of experience to help clients achieve their fitness goals. To schedule a personal session with Askew, call the Powershop at 692-1003.

Bravek receives honor from SDSU employees

BROOKINGS – Karen Bravek is the recipient of the South Dakota State University Public Service Employee of the Month Award for August in recognition of her outstanding service and contributions to her role as Procurement Officer .

Bravek started working at SDSU in 1994 and, according to his colleagues, has been an integral part of the purchasing office for 15 years. Her time on campus and her experience have made her reliable and appreciated by many.

“Not only is she an accomplished professional, but she’s also at the top of her game when it comes to purchasing rules,” said Michael Adelaine, vice president emeritus of technology and security. “As always, her end goal was to do what was right for the university and help everyone she works with for a successful purchase. Every day, Karen lives SDSU’s values ​​of being people-centered, having integrity and delivering excellence.

Adelaine added that he saw with his own eyes that Bravek was “the perfect role model to identify what it means to be employee of the month.”

In addition to having exceptional knowledge, colleagues noted that she is very dedicated to her work and service, as well as an infectious attitude that influences the workplace.

“Karen brings an abundance of energy to her position and consistently works at a high level, making sure she always provides the right answer by researching or asking me questions as needed,” said Janet Peterson, Director shared services. “In my experience, Karen is very knowledgeable about all purchasing policies and functions and has a broad overall understanding of the university.”

Hy-Vee pharmacies offering flu shots

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Hy-Vee recently announced that the flu shot is now available at its more than 275 Hy-Vee pharmacies, with no appointment or prescription required.

Drive-through influenza clinics will also be offered at Hy-Vee pharmacies in the company’s eight-state area on certain days through October 30.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people 6 months of age and older get a flu shot each year to avoid contracting and spreading the flu virus.

For the second year in a row, drive-thru flu clinics will be offered outside many Hy-Vee Pharmacy stores by Saturday, October 30 at the following times each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Hy-Vee pharmacists conduct a pre-vaccination screening process to ensure that each individual receives the most beneficial influenza vaccine for their health.

Regular and high dose influenza vaccines are available at Hy-Vee pharmacies. Medicare and most insurance plans provide free coverage for the flu shot and other vaccines. Currently, all vaccinated patients must wear a mask during their vaccination, according to CDC guidelines.

Currently, flu shots are available without a prescription during regular pharmacy hours for patients 6 months and older at facilities in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota; or 3 years and older in Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin as per US Department of Health and Human Services PREP law.

Each patient who receives a flu shot at a Hy-Vee Pharmacy can earn a Hy-Vee Fuel Saver reward of 20 cents. Employers who wish to organize an on-site clinic for their employees can send an email [email protected] for more details. Clinics are generally held from September to November.
