Getting in good shape is probably the most common New Years resolution in the world! Many of us have the desire to get in shape, but often end up losing track of our fitness goals. Busy schedules, slow results, or simply a loss of interest are some of the many demotivating factors that keep you from achieving your resolutions. Sohamjita Roy, Fitness and Nutrition Consultant, FITTR, says, “Maintaining your efforts therefore becomes a difficult puzzle to solve with such obstacles blocking your path. As 2022 is finally here, many people are reportedly making new fitness resolutions to follow. If you’re one of them too, all you need to do is take a few simple steps to make sure you’re on the right path to maintaining your fitness trail.

Here’s what to do!

Set realistic goals

Most people tend to set unrealistic fitness goals that are too high to achieve in a given period of time. “Instead of setting yourself big goals, several short-term goals should be set to achieve a toned body through sustained effort. If you aim to lose 10kg in a month, there is a good chance that you will end up denouncing your resolve after not achieving the goal. But losing just a few pounds a month throughout the year will inevitably transform your body, ”says Roy. Systematically crushing your monthly goals will not only boost your self-confidence, but also make fitness a habit.

Make the necessary lifestyle changes

What many don’t realize is that one cannot make a major difference in one’s body shape by emergency dieting and other myopic measures that do more harm than good. It becomes vital to introduce some permanent changes in your daily routine that will yield massive results in the long run. Roy suggests, “Just cutting out fried foods and desserts will go a long way in losing weight. You can always seek advice from nutritionists and other fitness experts to create a new diet chart. On top of that, you should also make sure that you get about seven to eight hours of sleep per day. People living in urban areas often compromise their sleep because of work and other reasons. But limiting your sleep directly affects the wear and tear on your body. All of these factors together contribute to the transformation of your body; and adding them to your lifestyle will bring you the results you were looking for.

Balance your daily schedule with fitness

It would be fair to say that managing your personal and professional life has become a delicate task these days. Almost everyone multitasks in order to keep their daily routine running smoothly and to make room for their schedule. “A number of people often criticize the lack of time for not training regularly. However, exercising every day for at least 30-45 minutes or an hour should become a non-negotiable part of your day. Proactively managing your schedule will give you plenty of time to train, which will ultimately become an irreplaceable part of your daily lifestyle, ”says Roy.

Turn fitness into a hobby

Workouts are often seen as an unwanted necessity to keep your health in check. This is probably the main reason why gyms and other fitness centers are full at the start of the year, but become less crowded with each passing month. “Exercise doesn’t have to be dark; make it a hobby by pursuing activities that you enjoy. If you like sports, pick a game of your choice and make it your training regimen. Even if you are not athletic, just listening to music and going for a walk will make it more fun for you to sweat and burn calories, ”says Roy. Make your workout a hobby and you will effortlessly follow your path to fitness!

Reward yourself from time to time

Positive reinforcement is perhaps the best tip in the book. Since you are strictly following your diet and workout routine, it is only fair that you give in to your indulgences every now and then. “Eat a cheat meal of your choice once every 3-4 weeks for your psychological satisfaction. Refraining from your comfort food for too long will cause you to binge on fast food when you eventually give in to your cravings. keep your cheat meals around the corner and make sure you offset those extra calories by resuming your routine with total dedication, ”advises Roy.

With these tips, you can be sure to absolutely crush your goals and achieve your fitness resolutions!
