SIBU (June 22): More than 20 bodybuilders from the central region of Sarawak will flex their muscles in the inaugural 2022 Swan Classic Championship at the Malay Union Club (MUC) Hall on Saturday.

Organized by the Pelawan branch of the Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu Sarawak Party (PBB) and assisted by the Sibu Division Bodybuilding & Weightlifting Association (SDBWA), the championship is sanctioned by the Sarawak Bodybuilders’ Association.

SDBWA secretary Martin Voon said the competition is divided into three categories – bodybuilding (open), physique and fitness.

Attendees included aspiring bodybuilders from Mukah, Saratok, Bintulu, Meradong and host Sibu.

“It’s only open to bodybuilders who have never won a Mr Championship Sarawak, Mr Malaysia or any other international championship,” he told a press conference on Tuesday evening.

Voon said the aim was to look for potential bodybuilders to represent the central region for the Mr Sarawak tournament in Miri on July 2.

He was grateful that the bodybuilding competition could finally be held after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Central Region bodybuilders are hungry for action and eager to make an impact in the bodybuilding fraternity.

“I think the bodybuilders will put on their best performances and do their best to impress the judges with their scissors and muscles.”

For those who haven’t registered yet, Voon said walk-in registration is accepted at the competition site on the day of the event.

The entry fee is RM30 per person and those who enter two categories only need to pay RM50.
